New visa scheme open

The Future Technology Research and Innovation (FTRI) scheme is a new visa scheme that enables UK businesses to sponsor international researchers and research interns to carry out short-term (up to 1 or 2 years) work, research or training placements.

It is designed for innovative UK businesses to:

• up-skill your existing workforce and collaborate on research
• work with early career stage researchers, postgraduates or interns that are not a long-term addition to your workforce
• build global connections

Who can apply

Your business is eligible for a sponsorship licence if it:

• is undertaking research and/or innovation activity in a critical technology specified in the UK’s Science and Technology Frameworkopens www.gov.uk in a new tab. These technologies are:
  • artificial intelligence
  • engineering biology
  • future telecoms
  • quantum technologies
  • semiconductors
• is currently, or has previously been, in receipt of Innovate UK funding
• holds an A rated Skilled Worker licence
