New visa scheme open
The Future Technology Research and Innovation (FTRI) scheme is a new visa scheme that enables UK businesses to sponsor international researchers and research interns to carry out short-term (up to 1 or 2 years) work, research or training placements.
It is designed for innovative UK businesses to:
- up-skill your existing workforce and collaborate on research
- work with early career stage researchers, postgraduates or interns that are not a long-term addition to your workforce
- build global connections
Who can apply
Your business is eligible for a sponsorship licence if it:
- is undertaking research and/or innovation activity in a critical technology specified in the UK’s Science and Technology Frameworkopens www.gov.uk in a new tab. These technologies are:
- artificial intelligence
- engineering biology
- future telecoms
- quantum technologies
- semiconductors
- is currently, or has previously been, in receipt of Innovate UK funding
- holds an A rated Skilled Worker licence
