Understand Certificates of Free Sale (CFS)

A Certificate of Free Sale (CFS) is a document that confirms your product complies with relevant laws and regulations and can be freely sold on the open market. They are usually requested when the country you are exporting to does not have its own regulatory regime.

Certificates of Free Sale usually apply for products such as food and drink, biologics, cosmetics and medicine or medical devices. They are not part of the UK’s standard export procedures, but they may to help you access certain overseas markets.

Apply for a Certificate of Free Sale (CFS)

You can apply online for a Certificate of Free Sale, and other export certificates, from the UK government. Issuing authorities in the UK vary depending on the product you are exporting.
