Colchester Borough Council blazed a digital transformation trail, and revolutionised waste & recycling services at the same time: A project with multiple challenges that included a wide range of waste and recycling services being provided including wheeled bins to selected wards, and all within a requirement for minimum change of collection day for the public (15% was achieved). Colchester has a wide geographical area incorporating both high and low density areas servicing a wide range of properties from flats, houses and multiple occupancy. With training and on-going support from ISL, the team at Colchester created new routes using RouteSmart-for-ArcGIS that are as efficient as possible within the constraints of vehicles, working hours, and depot, MRF & landfill locations, as well as the road network. CBC completely redesigned the waste & recycling service using the latest technology & real time data to optimise and automate processes increasing recycling rates by 10%
