Slingsby Castle Reconstruction 3D Modelling

A rendering of the Slingsby Castle model

Slingsby Castle is a ruin of a 17th century manor near York. 3D models of both the structure built around 1630 and an earlier design which was never constructed were reconstructed digitally as part of a thesis to determine the differences between designs and to better understand today’s ruin.

This project helped to prove the methodological significance of 3D modeling for Buildings Archaeology and provided the village of Slingsby with visualizations, in the form of VR and digital animation, affording its citizens and guests a better understanding of the ruin that was once a towering and imposing structure.
