Retrofit to mechanical legacy drives on critical systems

The Situation:
A customer contacted Solid State Disks to support them on an MOD project, replacing ageing Panasonic JU257A606Pfloppy disk drives, which were used to boot up their system, the information then being copied via Dos 6.2 and the files transferred to a desktop computer (Solaris). The host equipment was operational and too expensive to replace. However, the floppy disks were failing and needed to be replaced.

The challenge:
We had not previously emulated the Panasonic JU257A606P drive
Exact form, fit & function of the legacy drive was vital for correct host operation.
Reliability. The original legacy drive was continually failing, incurring significant cost to the customer and its MOD end users
