Description
St. James’s Hospital Board hereby notifies its intention to engage in direct negotiations with Recovery at Home Ireland (RAHI) for the provision of virtual ward services, with a view to entering into a contract agreement upon completion of commercial negotiations.
St. James’s Hospital Board requires virtual ward services for St. James’s Hospital (SJH) patients from a suitable and qualified service provider who can deliver a suite of comprehensive clinical services at the homes of SJH patients. These services are broadly aligned with that of a hospital with doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, pharmacists and allied health professionals treating patients in the comfort of their own home.
RAHI is believed to be the only economic operator in the country, has been identified as capable of meeting SJH’s requirement. Detailed description of virtual ward services is as follows: -
A virtual ward service would provide wrap-around clinical and social care to people in their homes to reduce the need for hospital admission through the use of Telemedicine devices that are monitored 24/7 by a clinically led multi-disciplinary team who also visits patients at home to help them recover or avoid a hospital admission.
The lead consultant in a virtual ward service is supported by highly skilled multi-disciplinary team who would coordinate complete care for patients in a virtual ward ensuring that patients receive targeted specialist care and continuity of care. This would include: -
Intravenous medication administration
Diagnostic imaging services (Chest X-ray)
Physiotherapy
Near Patient Testing (NPT), also known as point of care testing
Live and asynchronous measurements (including live ECG)
Pharmacy medication delivery services including Pharmacovigilance
A virtual ward service would provide a consistent, proactive approach to caring for people with the most complex medical and social needs in the community, rather than a reactive one that could end up in multiple hospital admissions and long lengths of stay
