Vehicle-side monitoring of the track environment - a project to develop a simple and scalable sensor-based system for practice and research
Aim
The project aims to develop a sensor system that monitors the track environment on board the vehicle and can be used to identify situations in which people are reported on or in the track more accurately and quickly than before. The recorded data should also improve the data situation for research, e.g. on the frequency of dangerous objects on the track or animal collisions.
Description
Reports of people on or in the track are becoming more frequent; the necessary restrictions worsen the quality of operations. There is a lack of data for the exact reconstruction of the situations; this is probably why overly restrictive measures are taken. At the same time, research is also interested in hazardous\/endangered objects in the track environment (people, animals, objects) - be it to determine the safety requirements for driverless ATO systems or to assess the effects on the environment. A simple and, above all, scalable camera system based on the principle of a dashcam could help here.
