This project is intended to provide an overview of nationally and internationally used and designed approaches for increasing capacity, speed and reliability in the existing rail system.
The aim of this project is to look for solutions that have already been implemented, whether in terms of personnel, rolling stock or infrastructure. At the end of this project, a catalog of measures is to be created with which improvements in rail transport can be presented in a generally understandable way. The measures are to be presented in a simulation for better understanding.
Description
The demand for mobility has changed over the years and is continuously increasing. Social development and socio-cultural change as well as awareness of the environment and climate are making the requirements of mobility users more individual and more demanding. In order to counteract climate change in particular, the additional demand for transportation services should be covered disproportionately by rail transport in the future. However, a direct increase in rail transport performance will fail due to overutilized resources, i.e. the available capacities.
The exhausted capacities in rail transport, whether in terms of personnel, vehicles or infrastructure, cannot be increased simply by providing new resources. Work must also be done to increase the effective performance of existing infrastructures and vehicles without overtaxing or wearing out these resources. The question of this project is what measures can be used to mitigate identified problems.
