The Untere Ahr wastewater treatment plant in Sinzig was severely damaged by the 2021 flood disaster. A provisional recommissioning of the wastewater treatment plant at the existing site was achieved after 5 months. However, even before the event, the wastewater treatment plant was due to be extensively rebuilt due to the need for renovation and expansion. In the course of planning, which began in 2021, the site was already critically assessed with regard to flood events and classified as not eligible for approval again. The area now selected for the new construction of the Untere Ahr sewage treatment plant is located north of the B 266 on a site that is geodetically around 7-8 m above the old site and is therefore safe from flooding. The site is located in the Remagen urban area. The Mayschoß sewage treatment plant was completely destroyed in the catastrophic flood and will not be rebuilt at the old site. The catchment area (4,000 PE) will be connected to the network in the catchment area of the Untere Ahr sewage treatment plant and, according to the requirements planning, a sewage treatment plant with a capacity of at least 174,000 PE is to be built. The inflowing water volumes are expected to be 800 l/s. The objectives of the 4th purification stage are to be defined in the course of planning. The aim is to optimize plant operation in terms of energy and economy with maximum plant availability, and planning with BIM is planned. The possibilities of AI are also to be taken into account. The use of AI should include the optimization of processes with regard to resource savings and energy efficiency. Project preparation has been started by the awarding authority, but also with the help of an external service provider. This contract includes parts of the project preparation (AHO LP 1) in accordance with the attached basic service catalog.
