Description
The task of the planning competition is to redesign the inner-city open spaces of Zschochernplatz and Zschochernstraße, known as Zschochern for short by the people of Gera. The competition area has a total size of approx. 6,000 m². Zschochernplatz, located to the west, is part of the Nördliche Innenstadt monument ensemble and directly adjoins the main shopping street Sorge. The open space to be designed is flanked by residential buildings, some with retail outlets. It is characterized by vehicle traffic and heavy sealing, but also by trees. In terms of the multiple use of the open space, climate adaptation, accessibility, inclusion and sustainability, local residents, pedestrians and cyclists are to be rethought, taking into account the existing buildings. In terms of function and design, the square and street are to be considered as a whole - taking into account the respective specifics - and the open space is to be given a high quality of stay. Revitalizing the urban space is the most important goal for residents and visitors, supported by trade, art and culture, also in the overall urban context.
