Description

The object of this project is to create a basis for the intended assessment of the sustainability of road markings. The main aim of the project is to obtain initial information and data on the phases of the construction, use and disposal of road markings, which have received little attention to date. Based on the process steps and scenarios developed, exemplary calculations on sustainability should then be available, on the basis of which future award processes can be sustainably optimized. To this end, the project is divided into four work packages (WP), the respective objectives of which are to be developed.
In the first work package, the award processes in other EU countries are to be analyzed with regard to sustainability factors so that possible approaches for balancing sustainability in the award process in the area of road markings can already be identified and summarized in a structured manner. As a partial result, an overview of sustainable factors in road marking procurement processes in other EU countries should be available, which can be used to sustainably optimize one's own procurement processes.
In the next work package, detailed processes occurring in the life cycle phases of the construction, use and disposal of road markings will first be collected in a structured manner and then examined for their influence on sustainability. The processes that can occur with different road marking materials are not to be compared with each other, but considered individually. The influence on sustainability is to be analyzed through factors such as the emission of greenhouse gases or the use of energy and water. As a partial result, the identified processes for different marking materials and application types are available on the one hand and the influence of these process steps on the environment on the other.
Building on this, the third work package will define the rules and requirements for the creation of EPDs (Environmental Product Declarations) specifically for road markings. The aim is to create a template for a c-PCR (complementary Product Category Rules) for road markings. This also includes the development of suitable scenarios that include various common case studies of typical process chains that occur in practice. The scenarios are linked to the phases and modules according to DIN EN 15804 and are intended to depict specific real-life conditions.
In the last work package, the knowledge acquired in the previous work package is finally applied. The most important indicators and resource utilization are now to be calculated from the identified scenarios and the process steps occurring in them. The calculation should be based on a life cycle assessment and only include the phases of construction, use and disposal of road markings. The interpretation of the calculated values and their classification is of great importance.
The following information should be available at the end of the project:
? The current status of sustainability aspects in road marking procurement processes in other EU countries
? Process description of different road marking materials in the life cycle phases of construction, use and disposal, as well as their influence on sustainability and the environment
? Rules and requirements for EPDs specifically for road markings, which can later serve as a c-PCR basis
? Sustainability assessment based on selected scenarios
