Description

The great bustard (Otis tarda) is one of the most difficult birds in the world to fly. According to IUCN criteria, the species is "globally threatened". In Germany, it is considered to be threatened with extinction according to the current Red List, and sufficient protein-rich arthropod food is essential for the survival of great bustard chicks in the first weeks of their lives. Previous studies (Litzbarski) have shown that a lack of available arthropod food in Great Bustard habitats is one of the greatest mortality factors for chicks. -> Tasks that have already been completed in 2022:Collection of arthropods on differently used open land habitats in 2022, resulting in a number of samples from ground traps and Malaise traps-> Tasks that are advertised here:- Determination of the total biomass and total species diversity:- Determination of dropping weight- Method: metabarcoding- Transfer of the remaining genetic sample quantities in permanently storable labeled containers- Provision of the species data for MultibaseCS of the LfU
