The district town of Bergheim is located around 30 km west of Cologne and has a population of around 60,000. In 2016, the integrated action plan for a vibrant and multifunctional city center was adopted, the scope of which includes the above-mentioned measures. The park is located to the north of the city center. The Green Lung is located between the district court, the Albert Schweitzer School and the Grüne Erde and St. Remigius daycare centers. The aim is to "upgrade the Green Lung into a multi-generational park". To this end, climate-positive planning is to be promoted, which requires selective measures for an identity-creating, environmentally friendly park with a mix of leisure, cultural and recreational activities. The central but less present location should become more attractive through the three pillars of biodiversity, education and exercise and attract many users. To this end, the entrances will be marked with barrier bollards in a green color and special woody plants. The existing and newly planned trees and shrubs within the park create a canopy of shade and a habitat for many animals. The existing paths meander through the park and will be optimized both technically and in terms of design. Sports, play and educational areas enhance the quality and thus the status within the cityscape. The establishment of multifunctional areas for all age groups will strengthen the social community and communication.
