Description

The aim of the project is to clearly present the knowledge and existing training opportunities for non-technical skills (NTS) in rail transport in Germany, as well as exemplary, practical teaching as a basis for the systematic implementation of NTS in rail operations. On the basis of a scientific foundation, concepts for the development of NTS are created in a targeted manner in joint development with potential participants and practice partners. The project results focus on the transfer of knowledge and targeted recommendations for action in order to systematically supplement the range of further training courses and thus sustainably strengthen safety in rail operations.
Description
The promotion of NTS, such as situational awareness, decision-making, cooperation skills or stress management, is already established in many safety-critical industries and also in the rail sector in other countries, as they are of crucial importance for safety and efficiency in operations. NTS must also be addressed in the context of competence and emergency management in the safety management system in accordance with the ERA's guidelines for safety certification and monitoring. There are already railway-specific further training courses that can be assigned to NTS. However, there is a knowledge gap regarding the quantity and quality of the teaching of specific NTS in railroad company training and further training in Germany. However, this is the basis for the systematic and effective implementation of NTS in the German rail sector.
