Description
The Department of Resources (DoR) requires a suitably qualified person to undertake the task of compiling a Site Remediation Concept for Thalanga Abandoned Mine Site. Thalanga Mine is located 65km west of Charters Towers, North Queensland, where the DoR is currently undertaking make-safe works on the site after being disclaimed in December 2022 following 30 years of mining legacy. A VMS polymetallic (Cu-Pb-Zn +/- AU-Ag) mine the site was not decommissioned or rehabilitated before it was abandoned. The site consists of underground workings, an open cut pit filled with contaminated water, large tailings storage facility in various stages of capping, aging mineral processing plant, associated mining equipment and infrastructure along with water storages, evaporation cells and waste rock dumps.
