Description

In alignment with its sustainability goals and environmental responsibility, SETU is undertaking a comprehensive energy audit. This initiative is driven by the requirements set forth in the European Union's Energy Efficiency Directive (EED) as transposed into Irish Law under SI426 2014. The EED mandates that large enterprises, including universities, conduct regular energy audits to identify cost-effective energy savings measures. Furthermore, SETU are committed to achieving the decarbonisation and energy efficiency targets as set out for the public sector in Ireland's Climate Action Plan. The energy audit will assess the current energy consumption patterns across all SETU campuses, identify opportunities for enhancing energy efficiency, while also identifying realistic pathways to decarbonise the universities overall carbon footprint. The audit will encompass all aspects of energy use within the university, including but not limited to building fabric, heating, cooling, ventilation, lighting, Information Technology [IT] and all other equipment used for the university’s operations across various buildings and facilities. This scoping document outlines the framework and methodology for the energy audit, detailing the objectives, scope, and key deliverables. It serves as a foundational guide for all stakeholders involved, ensuring a cohesive and systematic approach to evaluating and improving energy performance at SETU. Through this audit, SETU aspires to set a benchmark for sustainability in higher education, demonstrating leadership in energy management and environmental stewardship while complying with both national and EU legislative requirements
