Description

Island Health is governed by a board of directors, appointed by the provincial government. An executive team leads the delivery of health service within the health authority. Island Health is publicly funded, and accountable to the provincial government and the public for resources used in delivering health care and services. It has been identified that improved access to supportive, safe, and time-limited live-in stabilization and supportive recovery services, where clients’ basic needs can be met while they continue to recover from substance use is required in the Port Alberni-Clayoquot area. Island Heath is seeking proposals from a proponent to deliver a minimum of six (6) and up to eight (8) stabilization and supportive recovery service beds for adults. An additional bed base may be considered if achievable within available budget and if the service provider is able to meet requirements related to zoning, bylaws, licensing, registration, etc. A “Substance Use Support Recovery and Stabilization Residence” is an important part of community substance use services supports. A Substance Use Support Recovery and Stabilization Residence provides a safe, structured, and secure environment, twenty-four hours a day, every day, “for clients focusing on their immediate concerns around substance use and their integration back into the community” (Service Model & Provincial Standards for Adult Residential Substance Use Services p 38). Stabilization and Supportive Recovery includes accommodation and related recovery support in a substance free environment for up to 30 days (Stabilization) and up to 90 days (Supportive Recovery) to decrease the risk of relapse and increase the opportunity for successful recovery. Activities offered include coaching for daily living, community reintegration, and some counselling and case management.
