Description
Since 2010 the ECB has implemented an environmental management system (EMS) in accordance with the international standard ISO 14001:2015 and Regulation (EC) No 1221\/2009, as amended by Regulation (EU) 2017\/1505 and 2018\/2026. The ECB's priority remains to avoid greenhouse gas emissions wherever possible and to limit emissions in areas where they cannot be avoided. In cases where emissions cannot be further limited and greenhouse gas emissions cannot currently be reduced to zero, the ECB has decided to offset its greenhouse gas emissions, expressed in tons of CO2 equivalent, as a complementary measure to its climate change mitigation efforts (2021: 16 023.2 tons of CO2). The ECB plans to introduce a dynamic procurement system with an initial term of two years, which can be extended by a further two years at the ECB's discretion (total term of up to four years).
