Description
SBH | Schulbau Hamburg, as a state-owned enterprise of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg (hereinafter referred to as SBH), has the task of planning, building, maintaining and managing school properties in accordance with economic principles, taking into account school requirements, and of leasing the more than 400 schools to the Ministry of Schools and Vocational Training (BSB).
The school building was designed in 1906 by the Hochbauamt (Albert Erbe) in the neo-baroque style as an elementary school and erected in 1909 as a solid masonry building with a pitched roof. During the Second World War, the roof truss of the 5-storey building was severely damaged and the gymnasium extension was destroyed.
In 1954, the badly damaged building was converted into a domestic school and extended by adding a partial storey ("lantern") and an extension with a gymnasium with a basement and assembly hall above.
The striking pitched roof has been replaced by flat sloping cold roofs. The part of the building that is to be demolished before the conversion and renovation work was added in 1961 as a single-storey extension in concrete frame construction on the north side.
