Description
As part of the new transport contract, S-Bahn Hamburg GmbH has undertaken to significantly increase passenger transport capacity by 2033. This can only be achieved by gradually increasing the frequency of services and opening up new routes. This increase requires, among other things, an increase in efficiency and a technical adaptation of the existing infrastructure for maintenance, cleaning and train formation and stabling.
The aim of the project is to develop the Elbgaustraße S-Bahn depot. The site development consists of the following projects:
1) New construction of ARA, graffiti hall and outdoor area incl. parking lot and supply lines
2) Refurbishment of office building and railcar hall
3) Renewal of electrical engineering
The depot, including stabling, is scheduled to resume regular operations at the end of 2028.
The Elbgaustraße depot (EGS) is located on line 1225 "Hamburg-Holstenstraße, W 803 - Elmshorn, S-Bahn" between Elbgaustraße station and the Krupunder stop. The S3 and S5 lines run there. The plant site is located on an island between the two S-Bahn tracks and is accessed via a tunnel over the Alpenrosenweg.
1) Outdoor cleaning facility and graffiti hall with parking lot
The existing outdoor cleaning facility (ARA) is obsolete and needs to be replaced. A new hall with two tracks for outdoor cleaning and graffiti removal of the S-Bahn vehicles is being built in the area. The adjacent technical building contains a recreation area, showers and changing rooms on the 2nd floor. The ground floor and basement contain the technical room for the equipment trades and the water treatment systems for the two halls.
All buildings are to be powered by PV and heat pumps.
The existing parking lot will be redesigned by removing the neutralization system. This includes the transformer station, which will be installed by DB Energie, a fence with a gate system and new outdoor lighting.
The parking lot will be used as a construction site installation area during the construction phase. In addition, 1000 m² directly on the track of the adjacent allotment garden will be used as a construction site installation area and for the construction office.
2) Railcar shed and office building
The existing railcar shed (TW shed) and the office building are obsolete and need to be upgraded. All buildings are to be supplied with PV and heat pumps to replace the current natural gas supply. The working pits of the tracks are to be renewed and a stabling area is also to be reactivated. All technical components in the hall will be removed and brought up to the state of the art. A new warehouse and workshop are to be built on the first floor of the office building. The foremen's offices, the train drivers' recreation rooms and other offices are located on the first floor. The showers, changing rooms and a large break room are located on the 2nd floor.
3) New electrical engineering building
An island rectifier station (IGW) (1200 V DC) is required for the cleaning center, office and railcar hall projects. The IGW is to supply two switchgears. On the one hand the TW hall for testing the vehicles and on the other hand for tracks 20 and 21 of the ARA and Graffiti hall for the traction current for driving the vehicles out. All traction current systems in the construction area must be brought up to date, and the interfaces to the stabling facility, including tracks 10 and 11, must be prepared for a separate project. Only preparatory measures for the traction current area will be taken for the stabling facility; the superstructure has already been renewed. The point heating system from the overhead line is to be dismantled and replaced by a 50 Hz point heating system The interface to the new transformer station and the existing rectifier station are also planned.
