Description

RheinEnergie AG is planning new 110 kV power cables to secure the supply to the city of Cologne on the left bank of the Rhine.

To secure the power supply in the 110 kV range, the Wöhler substation (hereinafter referred to as UW) and the UW Nord are to be connected via a double line.

As part of the preliminary planning (feasibility study), several variants with different route sections were examined. The project was given the title TRICOL (Triangle Cologne). A total of 3 TRICOL projects are available, but only the TRICOL 1 project (UW Wöhler - UW Nord) is being put out to tender in this planning service. The TRICOL 1 project is divided into 2 route sections. These include TRICOL 1A (NORTH) with a total length of 4,442 meters and TRICOL 1B (SOUTH) with a total length of 4,692 meters. The TRICOL 1B (SOUTH) route section has the special feature that a double trench must be created from the UW Nord towards UW Wöhler up to route km 2,237, as another project will also use the double route here. The double trench provides for the parallel laying of two cable strands in an approx. 1.5 m wide trench (Annex 5.3).

The total length of TRICOL 1 is as follows:

TRICOL 1A (NORD) (UW Wöhler - UW Nord) 4,442 meters

TRICOL 1B (SOUTH) (UW Wöhler - UW Nord) 4,692 meters

Total 9,134 meters

Most of the pipelines will be laid using the open trench method. Only at neuralgic points (e.g. railway tracks, crossings, etc.) will the lines be laid underground.
