Description
DB Energie GmbH manages one of the largest cross-energy portfolios in Germany for Deutsche Bahn AG (DB). It supplies trains of all rail transport companies that use 16.7 Hz traction current or direct current on DB's approximately 19,715 km of electrified rail networks. 62 percent of DB Bahn's traction current mix already came from renewable energy sources in 2020. By 2038, all DB traction current is to be "green". DB Energie GmbH also supplies DB's stations, plants and properties.
The growing share of renewable energies and the energy transition as a whole are leading to a massive expansion of decentralized and controllable generation and consumption systems, which in turn creates new risks for grid stability. In order to manage these risks, grid status monitoring and the remote controllability of systems must be expanded.
With the rollout of intelligent metering systems (iMSys), DB Energie GmbH is investing in a metering and communication infrastructure that enables secure control of those decentralized generation and consumption systems. DB Energie GmbH, represented by Deutsche Bahn AG, is planning to introduce a controllable local system (CLS management system) together with a gateway administrator system (GWA) in order to control this infrastructure cost-effectively and securely and to create the basis for value-added services such as energy management for properties.
