Description

Notice is hereby given that the Ministry of Ministry of Water, Lands and Resource Stewardship is contemplating making a direct award of a contract to Boostao IT Consultancy Limited. The contractor will (1) build on existing work to translate the Python script of the grizzly bear and moose Resource Rating Model (RRM) component of SkWERM into program R and (2) convert the RRM process to rasters. In addition, the contractor will (3) update the SkWERM R script to assign burn severity ratings from past wildfires to polygons, and update functions that run the VRI-BEM component of the model to add functions for BEU checks and corrections, and (4) convert the proximity analysis component of the script from Python to R. This work requires previous knowledge of the linkages between the different components of the model, as well as the inner workings of the RRM input, resource ratings, site values, and modifiers. Translating the RRM and proximity analysis scripts into R will allow for a more seamless running of the SkWERM. Converting the RRM into a process that uses rasters will prevent the loss of information due to the spatial aggregation of data. Incorporating burn severity ratings allows us to adjust habitat characteristics in the model to better match real-world conditions and allow for better processes to keep the model up-to-date.
