Description

Department B2 of the Ministry of the Interior, Building and Sport (hereinafter referred to as the naturalization authority), as the naturalization authority of the state, is responsible for processing and deciding on matters relating to citizenship law (in particular naturalization, renunciation) in Saarland, with the exception of citizenship determination procedures, which are the responsibility of the municipalities (state capital, regional association of Saarbrücken, medium-sized towns of St. Ingbert and Völklingen and the five districts). These municipal authorities also act as the body receiving and forwarding applications in the naturalization procedures for which the Ministry is responsible as the naturalization authority and therefore also have an advisory and support function for the applicants and, following a positive decision by the naturalization authority, are also responsible for the ceremonial presentation of the naturalization certificates.
At present, the application and the transmission of all data relevant to the application between the office accepting the application and the naturalization authority is carried out in paper form. Only an outdated specialist procedure supports processing at the naturalization authority, but the files are kept on paper. No specialized procedures have been used by the local authorities to date. The introduction of a new, joint specialist procedure is intended to improve and digitize the current processes in the naturalization area.
