SBH | Schulbau Hamburg is the state enterprise of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg (hereinafter referred to as SBH) responsible for planning, building, maintaining and managing school properties in accordance with economic principles, taking school requirements into account, and for leasing the more than 400 schools to the Ministry of Schools and Vocational Training (BSB).

The replacement building on Mendelstrasse will largely restructure the site, including the centralization of technology. The building will house administrative areas, a multifunctional 300-600VT vitality kitchen and canteen area, as well as specialist rooms. The spacious cafeteria and communal area with stage is a first floor assembly area. Two large compartments will be built on the upper floor, with a stairwell core with necessary corridors in between. Heat will be generated by district heating, and PV panels will be installed on the roof areas. The new building will receive funding for climate-friendly new construction (KfN) and will be DGNB Gold certified as part of this. The chosen load-bearing structure consisting of a wooden beam ceiling with Delta Beam reduces the construction time and allows for subsequent conversions as well as the use of sustainable building materials. A timber façade based on the adjacent Hamburg classroom building is planned for the outer shell.
