Description

As stated by the Federal Sustainable Development Strategy’s (FSDS) Goal 13: Take Action on Climate Change and its Impacts, the Government of Canada announced in July 2021 an enhanced target committing Canada to cut its greenhouse gas emissions by 40 to 45% below 2005 levels by 2030. Under the Canadian Net-Zero Emissions Accountability Act, it requires a series of plans and reports to support accountability and transparency and help ensure Canada meets its milestones on the way to achieving net-zero emissions by the year 2050.
In support of the FSDS and the Canadian Net-Zero Emissions Accountability Act, Statistics Canada’s Census Program is exploring ways to conduct a carbon assessment of internal operations. As the Agency’s largest, most comprehensive statistical portrait with an operational footprint that reaches communities of all sizes across Canada, the Census Program is looking to create a baseline estimate of its carbon emissions using existing data, with the ultimate goal of establishing key recommendations for emission reductions for the 2031 Census.
While Statistics Canada regularly publishes survey data related to all 17 Sustainable Development Goals, the expertise to complete an internal evaluation at the program level is not currently available within the agency. Therefore, the Census Program is seeking to obtain information regarding services offered by contractors specializing in the evaluation and validation of greenhouse gases (GHGs), and if they have the ability/capacity to perform an internal assessment.
