Description
The scope of the investigation is as follows; There will be 27 cable percussion boreholes in soil strata extending to approximately 8 to 12 m below ground level (mbgl). There will be follow on rotary coring in approximately 9 holes to confirm competent bedrock. It is anticipated that standpipe piezometers will be installed in 9 boreholes. Dynamic (window) sampling will be conducted in soil strata to approximately 3 m bgl at 35 locations. There will be 19 trial pits carried out on the site in soil strata to a target depth of 4.5 m bgl. The trial pits will be accompanied with dynamic cone penetrometers. Machine or hand dug trial / slit trenches are proposed at 40 locations to locate services along the road and footpath where indicated on the drawing. The trenches shall be approximately 0.6m wide and are to progress a minimum of 1.5m below ground level, or following satisfactory location of all services indicated on the service drawings. All trial trenches shall be reinstated on day of excavation, with backfill, compaction and resurfacing carried out to TII standards. Temporary reinstatement, if required to ensure safe reopening of works area, shall be as per the specification and/or agreed with the Council. Upon reaching the scheduled depth of a borehole, the Contractor shall seek approval from the Investigation Supervisor prior to backfilling or installing monitoring/testing instrumentation. In addition to the above, the investigation will include the following: Geotechnical laboratory testing on recovered soil and rock samples for classification purposes; Chemical testing on recovered soil and groundwater samples for concrete protection measures; Ground Investigation Report (GIR), including detailed plan drawings Geotechnical interpretative Report, including detailed cross sections. The laboratory testing will be scheduled by the Investigation Supervisor in consultation with the Contractor.
