Description
Due to the almost universal use of inverter technology in railroad power supply and vehicle technology, the high-frequency switching behavior in particular leads to the introduction of harmonics into the power supply network. Due to the resulting distorted voltage, the interaction of the various system components provokes impermissible voltage and/or frequency deviations, resonance phenomena and power oscillations in the grid. This can lead to damage, malfunctions or failures of generation or distribution systems in the electrical railroad energy network or electric train transportation vehicles, as well as to large-scale network breakdowns. The harmonics generated by the converter technology can therefore jeopardize the stability of the grid and the reliability of the power supply. In the course of the project, the problems mentioned are to be quantified and scientifically investigated with the aid of previous and supplementary measurement campaigns. Based on the knowledge gained, a controlled active harmonic compensator will then be developed, realized as a prototype and its effectiveness proven in long-term measurements in the open digital test field of the German Center for Rail Transport Research.
