Description
The Millennium Challenge Corporation and the government of Mongolia have entered into a Millennium Challenge Compact for assistance to help reduce poverty through economic growth in the country.
This will help the government meet the projected demand for water in Ulaanbaatar through a water supply project, consisting of 3 investment activities:
- a downstream wells activity, to construct new groundwater wells with attendant transmission lines, reservoirs, and an advanced water purification plant (AWPP)
- a wastewater recycling activity, to build a new wastewater recycling plant and pipelines to provide high-quality treated wastewater that can be used by water-intensive industries, this will increase the amount of fresh water available for household consumption
- a water sector sustainability activity, to support policy reforms, capacity building, and technical assistance to improve the long-term sustainability of Ulaanbaatar’s water supply
