The project "General refurbishment Stuttgart-Ulm (VzG route 4700)" is part of the "General refurbishment of the high-performance network" program. In the "General refurbishment of the high-performance network" program, sections of the route are to be refurbished up to and including 2030 in order to achieve greater reliability and performance and an increase in the robustness of the infrastructure, as well as a better customer experience and better planning for customers.

|Renewal of the Arlbergstrasse level crossing
In the area of Stuttgart Untertürkheim station at km 6.849, route 4700 has a railroad overpass (EÜ) dating from 1945. In addition to route 4700 with two directional tracks, the structure crosses two directional tracks of route 4701, one directional track of route 4720 and the single-track route 4721.
The structure is technically obsolete and needs to be renewed. The measure serves to maintain operational safety.

| Renewal of the Mettinger Straße level crossing
Line 4700 has a level crossing from 1945 south of Stuttgart Untertürkheim station at km 7.128. In addition to line 4700 with two directional tracks, the structure carries two directional tracks of line 4701, one directional track of line 4720 and a station track ending approx. 40 m south of the level crossing.
The structure is technically obsolete and needs to be replaced. The measure serves to maintain operational safety.

| Untertürkheim station
The Stuttgart-Untertürkheim station is located on the main line 4700 \/ 4701 and consists of a modular outer platform \/ platform bridge at track 6 and two middle platforms at tracks 2\/3 and 4\/5. All platforms are connected to each other by a continuous pedestrian underpass. The pedestrian underpass connects the central platforms via two stairways. The central platform at track 4\/5 has an elevator which is connected to the pedestrian underpass. The outer platform at track 6 is accessed via two stairways and a barrier-free access route. There is a sold ground floor at the station.

The pedestrian underpass at the Stuttgart-Untertürkheim station is to be renovated. The platform roof on tracks 2\/3, 4\/5 of the central platforms is to be renewed using a component approach and the modular platform on track 6 using a component approach (including equipment for the corresponding station category). In addition, the stairs to the platform at track 6 and the PU stairs to the former ground floor in the east will be renewed.
