Description
Deutsche Bahn AG is planning to introduce devices for cleaning up removable media throughout the Group. Removable media are particularly important for updating and exchanging data from systems that are not connected to the IP network. This is particularly the case in OT environments. The same removable media are often used on different systems that have no protection mechanisms. This makes the removable media an ideal means of transportation for the spread of malware such as malicious software and viruses. The use of removable media for data transfer is ubiquitous in most Group companies and part of their daily work. Malware is regularly found on removable media in the plant area. The distribution of malware through the use of malware-infected removable media has therefore been identified as a Group-wide threat with a high probability of occurrence.
To counteract this, so-called Cleaning Stations with various interfaces such as USB / floppy / diskette / PCMCIA card / CD / SD cards are being sought to connect removable media, which are then checked for malware by the Cleaning Station. The Cleaning Station should inform the user whether the removable disk is released for use or should no longer be used due to infection with malware. It should be possible to clean and format the connected removable storage device.
The solutions are used in factory halls, outdoors and on trains. The main application of the Cleaning Station is the mobile version; stationary Cleaning Stations will also be used in the factories.
