Bielefeld University was built between 1972 and 1976 and is a 410m long and 230m wide building structure with up to 11 full storeys from level 0 (hall level) and two further basement levels. The entire complex has a gross floor area of approx. 314,000 m2 and is classified as a high-rise building in accordance with LBO NRW. All components are at the end of their regular service life. The main university building (UHG for short) is in need of comprehensive modernization due to the presence of pollutants, functional and structural defects and the outdated energy efficiency standards. Current plans envisage the refurbishment and modernization of the UHG in six construction phases (BA for short).
The 3rd BA project is to be carried out on the basis of a multi-party contract model (MPV)
with integrated project execution (IPA). The multi-party contract is designed to ensure that the contractual partners pursue the success of the project as a common goal on the basis of common project principles and in close partnership. As things stand at present, seven contractors are to be involved in the multi-party agreement in addition to the client
