Description
Aim of procurement is the successful purchase of a hosted IOD-Mission (In-Orbit-Demonstration),
as a hosted payload service, including launch and launch services with a well-established launcher
system, as well as mission operation with a well-established host spacecraft\/OTV, both featuring
flight heritage and a successful mission history. The underlying goal is to gain flight heritage of
the SpaceMast system and the demonstration of featured functionalities in real space
environment. The host spacecraft\/OTV shall be able to change orbits and altitudes, provide power
altitudes, provide power, data up and down-link, and control in terms of activating the Camera
SpaceMast system, as an OTV (orbital transfer vehicle) would do.
Payload Description:
The payload "Camera SpaceMast System" shall be flown in a hosted configuration and can be
considered roughly as a block volume with rectangular dimensions. The system consists of five
major components:
1. the Stationary Mast Deployment Unit with included mechanisms,
2. the Deployable Composite Mast,
3. the Camera Box, housing camera and electronics,
4. the electrical Drive Motor operating the mechanisms
5. and the Electronics Compartment
The main function of the Camera SpaceMast system is to deploy its camera several meters away
from the host spacecraft\/OTV\/OTV and taking images or videos of it or other payloads, from a
wider view angle. This is achieved by deploying the Deployable Composite Mast, as the Camera
Box is mounted to its tip.
A second function is the retraction of mast and camera. The Deployable Composite Mast itself is flattened and rolled
up for stowage, and pushed out of the Stationary Mast Deployment Unit, vice versa for
deployment. The mast and therefore the camera box can be retracted and re-deployed multiple
times. Actuation of deployment and retraction is driven by an electric motor and controlled by
the Electronics Compartment. Additionally, the overall system features several sensors for
monitoring, that are integrated at different locations
