Canadian Association of Heritage Professionals (CAHP)’s “Existing Buildings, Carbon,and Building Codes” project will undertake research, develop capacity-buildingresources, and disseminate findings to prepare Canadian markets for the futurerelease and prompt adoption of retrofit codes.Opportunities include:1. Leveraging the cross-disciplinary knowledge base of the professions which compriseCAHP’s membership and professionals who have valuable expertise and experienceapplying building and energy codes to existing and heritage buildings to createreference materials. This project will build on CAHP’s growing expertise onsustainable approaches to existing and heritage buildings, which is an emerging areaof practice and a key part of climate resilience.2. Carrying out these technical studies and research at a critical time when codes forexisting buildings are being developed presents the unique opportunity to prepare themarket with working solutions before retrofit codes are released, and not having toplay catch up over several code cycles.3.
