Description

The City of Kelowna is seeking to engage a civil contractor to provide constructability inputs and design engagement services for the, Airside Lighting Upgrade project at the Kelowna International Airport. The intent is to extend the engagement to the construction phase, which includes but is not limited to the following: Many of the existing airfield electrical systems and associated materials at the Kelowna International Airport (YLW) are at or approaching their design service life and are subject to an increasing risk of failure which could lead to outages of serviceability of the airfield for aircraft movements. The proposed project involves replacement of these systems while maintaining the operation of the existing systems throughout construction to maintain serviceability of the airfield for aircraft movements. In addition the project includes for upgrades of key airfield lighting systems to high intensity lighting which will enhance the ability for aircraft movements in lower visibility. There is also a considerable increase in the general safety factor associated with the planned upgrades. The scope of work includes for the replacement of the airfield lighting fixtures to the latest modern LED fixtures and well as the associated support structures, conduit systems, cabling and power sources. The intent is for the majority of the airfield lighting and supporting infrastructure to be new upon completion with an expected 25-30 year service life. The scope includes upgrades of the runway edge lighting to high intensity, taxiway / apron edge lighting conduit and cabling replacement, upgrade of the Runway 16 approach lighting from medium intensity MALS system to high intensity SSALR, upgrade of the Runway 34 approach lighting from medium intensity MALS-F system to high intensity SSALR, upgrades of the Runway 16 and Runway 34 PAPI systems, guidance signs replacement, runway guard light cabling replacement and constant current regulator replacement.
