In this session we will delve into the intricate details of the UK Food and Drink ecosystem, helping you understand what support and resources are out there to make exporting food and drink to the world a lot more digestible.

We will cover the key national, regional and local support structures, including how trade associations and industry bodies can assist your export journey.

We'll also be exploring the financial resources specifically available for food and drink exporters, including funding from the British Business Bank, UK Export Finance (UKEF), and other relevant financial institutions.

You'll learn how to navigate and leverage international networks, including commercial, logistical, and governmental channels, to streamline your export operations and expand your market reach. And finally, discover the importance of building strong relationships within the industry.

Maighdlin Gibson

Customs and trade specialist, The Institute of Export & International Trade

Maighdlin has over 13 years’ experience in NI and IE. Delivery of public training courses, and customs and SPS consultancy through the Chartered Institute of Export & International Trade.

Extensive International trade experience, stemming from a background in Freight forwarding and customs services. 

Specialist areas include perishables, pharmaceuticals and aerospace industries. 

Specialist interests include customs procedures and the Windsor Framework.

Michael Philpott

Senior Sales Manager, Whittard of Chelsea

Michael, Originally from Belgium, has called the UK home for nearly two decades. Currently, he works with Whittard of Chelsea, a distinguished British heritage brand founded in 1886 by Walter Whittard, renowned for their premium tea, coffee, and hot chocolate. With over 40 stores across the UK, Whittard of Chelsea primarily operates as a retailer but have been expanding their global reach for many years, serving more than 40 markets through wholesale and franchise partnerships.

Driven by a passion for building connections, Michael is focused on expanding British food and drink trade worldwide. While having experience exporting to Europe and the Middle East, his current focus is on the USA—a market full of promising opportunities for British brands.
