Calling all engineers and engineering firms. Come and find out how you can benefit from a new streamlined path to reciprocal licensure / registration between UK and US regulators!

What you’ll learn

  • find out how to obtain the International Professional Engineer (Int PE) credential – the gateway to the MRA
  • learn what steps a UK Chartered Engineer will need to take to use the MRA to be licensed in the US – and vice versa
  • explore the commercial benefits of the MRA for engineering firms

Description

In August 2024, the UK’s Engineering Council signed a mutual recognition agreement (MRA) with their US counterpart the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) – the first such agreement NCEES has ever signed with an overseas partner.

The MRA enables UK Chartered Engineers to be licensed in participating US states, and US professional engineers licensed in participating states to obtain the Chartered Engineer title in the UK.

As the first US states prepare to implement the MRA, join representatives from both the Engineering Council and NCEES to learn how the agreement works and how you can use it. We'll also cover which US states are planning to participate in the MRA and the timescale for implementation.

Speakers

Dr Dave Clark is International Affairs Manager at the Engineering Council and led negotiations towards the MRA with NCEES. Dave has extensive experience in the not-for-profit, professional body, and industrial sectors, including senior scientific and management roles in the analytical instruments industry. He has a PhD in Chemistry from King’s College London.

Marie Nebesky is International Engagement Strategist at NCEES, leading NCEES’s work with overseas partners. Nebesky holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in education. She taught mathematics at the secondary level for five years before moving to a transfer credit evaluator role in Admissions at Clemson University. She began her career at NCEES in 2010 as a credentials evaluator.

Simon Gordon is team lead for sub-federal market access in the United States, within DBT’s International Strategy and Trade Relations directorate. He works on recognition of UK professional qualifications in the United States, and has supported the Engineering Council and NCEES in the development and promotion of their MRA.
