Working to build a UK-Australia climate partnership

As the world marches towards an ambitious goal of net-zero emissions by 2050, the UK has set its sights on leading the charge.

We've cut emissions faster than any other G7 country and attracted billions of investment into renewable energy, which now account for 40% of our electricity.

The UK's £600 billion investment in the Green Industrial Revolutionopens www.gov.uk in a new tab means more opportunities for collaboration, partnership and investment in areas like offshore wind, hydrogen, carbon capture and storage (CCS).

We're also taking a leading role in international climate negotiations. Our shared climate goals, ambition and expertise create momentum for stronger partnerships as we transition to a clean energy future.

An investor-friendly market

The UK Government champions clean growth and provides extensive support to the private sector to unlock investment and green innovation in every region.

This investment means UK businesses are more innovative and accessible than ever before – a major private capital investment growth opportunity.

Our new UK-Australia Free Trade Agreement makes it even easier for trade and investment between our countries, with zero tariffs, easier business travel and reduced red tape.

Hydrogen opportunities

The hydrogen industry in the UK is well established and UK companies are at the forefront of research and development of hydrogen technology.

This strength means that UK companies are well positioned to export their products and services to growing hydrogen markets.

The UK Government commissioned Xodus to undertake a high-level overview of existing domestic capabilities in Australia that support the low carbon hydrogen sector, potential gaps where UK supply chain companies could provide support, and any barriers which could slow the roll out or impede UK industry participation.

Offshore wind opportunities

Offshore wind is a great example of how the UK Government works with private sector investors to nurture and develop renewable energy technologies that deliver world-leading capabilities and transformational change.

Together, the UK and Australia can usher in a new era of renewables that will reduce the cost of going green and expedite a low carbon economy.

Working together on climate

UK companies are using the latest technology to deliver cleaner, greener energy and support the transition needed to reach net zero.

Climate tech companies offer unique solutions to help meet varied Net Zero challenges.

This provides significant opportunities for knowledge sharing, collaboration, and exporting key innovation and technology expertise.
