Northern Irish maritime technologies and zero-emission vessels

Tell us about your company

Based in Northern Ireland, Artemis Technologies aims to lead the decarbonisation of the maritime industry through the design and development of transformative technologies and zero-emission vessels.

We are proud to have developed and launched the world’s first commercially viable, 100% electric hydrofoiling workboat range, right in the heart of Belfast harbour.

Hydrofoil technology lifts the boat out of the water, which results in less drag and therefore less required energy. The technology is transformative. Testing has shown fuel efficiency savings of over 90% and much greater ride comfort. With zero emissions, this technology has the potential to provide huge operational savings for all types of water vessel travel, from workboats to passenger ferries and taxis.

At the forefront of maritime engineering, we utilise our specialist expertise to provide tailored services to both high-performance and commercial clients.

What are your ambitions in New York?

There is a movement right around the world at the moment to make more use of waterways in cities to relieve pressure on road and rail.

The US is the biggest market for passenger ferries, especially since Joe Biden’s decarbonisation of maritime policy. In wanting to encourage America to become greener, New York is the best place for us to start.

We are ultimately looking to partner with US boat yards and are looking forward to what we hope will be fruitful discussions with New York Ferry Company and New Jersey Port.

"Hi, I’m David! I’m proud to be a part of the Artemis team, a true pioneer in green maritime. For me, it’s rewarding to be doing something for good that’s making a difference in the world.

Our company, Artemis Technologies, is actually a spin off from the Artemis Racing America’s Cup team. We wanted to see whether we could utilise the research and development from a high-performance racing environment to improve sustainability in maritime.

It is impossible to exaggerate the value of green maritime technology. The maritime industry is a big contributor to global carbon emissions, and we must take action to lessen our influence on the environment.

Our technology has outstanding potential, and we are excited to showcase it in New York."
