Description
A UK business, working with the Government of Zanzibar, needs help identifying suppliers for a project in Zanzibar, Tanzania.
The business would like to engage UK companies to improve the asset management and asset allocation of Zanzibar’s Sovereign Wealth Fund (ZSWF) of $150 million.
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and Department for Business and Trade (DBT) Growth Gateway programme was asked to make suggestions for changes to the investment portfolio and methodology.
Investment has been recommended into overseas equity and bond markets indices, in line with large sovereign wealth fund (SWF) guidelines.
The programme would like to find a fund administration partner and allocate some small portions of the fund to be managed (on a charitable basis) on behalf of the government by overseas asset managers and sovereign wealth funds
The business believes the long-term prospects of this initiative are very significant. Although it is currently lower on the government's priority list, they think if it eventually enables Tanzanian citizens to invest (for pensions, savings, schooling) into overseas financial markets, this could be a transformative initiative.
They are keen to speak to:
- fund administration providers
- passive index fund providers
- insurance asset managers
- SWF policy advisors and consultants
- asset managers
